Men’s Breakfast – Jan. 30, 2010

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

This morning we had our first Men’s Breakfast of 2010.

Previously we had been holding them at local restaurants but, at our last meeting of 2009 decided to make the switch to have it at the church.

Our chef, John Massicotte did a great job with the preparations and cooking the food. With bacon and eggs, sausages, home fries, pancakes and toast there was more than enough food to go around.

Our subject for the morning was “The Rat Race” and the traps that we so easily fall into. Meeting at the church we were able to use the video projector for part of our teaching.

We also discussed future vision for our Men’s Ministry with a vision to build men fully committed to Christ, their families and their brothers.

It was a great way to start of the year as we concluded the meeting with Br. Thornhill leading us in the song “Bind Us Together” and prayer.

We’re believing that God is doing “greater things”!

Moral Integrity

(The Gods Of This World)

James 4:1-10, 13-17

Growth Goals

· Identify worldly tendencies in your life

· Understand the destructive nature of materialism

· Learn the remedy for a pride-filled life filled with worldliness

Connecting With The Word

· The major source of quarrels and conflicts among Christians (and non-Christians) centers in a desire for recognition, honor, power, pleasure, money and superiority. It’s easy for the satisfaction of selfish desires to become more important than righteousness and God’s will. When this happens self-centered conflicts are created.

· What kind of desires was James referring to in verse 1?

· According to this passage, what does friendship with the world look like?

· In verses 13-17 what kind of man is James describing and what is wrong with his thinking?

· How can our determination to be successful lead us down a wrong path?

· In general, what are the signs of materialism in a man’s life?

· What steps does James tell us to take in order to overcome worldliness and materialism? Is this easy or hard for you?

April Men’s Breakfast

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

This month we changed locations and met at Dejeuner Cosmopolitain. The food was great and they very graciously gave us a room to ourselves.

We had a wonderful time of fellowship and a great discussion on James 4 as James deals with the problem of worldliness and materialism.

There were some great action points made at the conclusion of our study.

  • Committing to honor God’s will over our own will.
  • To learn to be satisfied with what we have.
  • To humble ourselves to be willing to admit when we are wrong.
  • To know our individual limits and to stay within them.
The big question - what am I doing, or, what can I be doing outside of church services to improve my relationship with God and to be an overcomer.
